And wow, that lounge lizard version of "Baby Got Back" that
bevanhaynes sent me has got to be heard to be believed.
Saw a free screening of the "Around the World in 80 Days" remake tonight. It was pretty harmless Disneyfied escapism with a lot of fight scenes and broad, flat comedy. I did enjoy some of the cameos--Ah-nuld (I'm not going to attempt to spell his last name and I'm too lazy to look it up) was amusing as a horny Turkish prince, and it was fun to see Kathy Bates as Queen Victoria. Cécile de France, who I enjoyed in "L'Auberge Espagnole," just annoyed me here....all the contrived perkiness of 10 Disney heroines rolled into one.
I bought a cute new outfit today...a lacy turquoise spaghetti strap top and a short turquoise chiffon skirt. Yay for frivolous expenditures...ah, well...I get my first paycheck from AMC soon.
My mom needs to stop buying Good Humor ice cream eclair bars. Seriously.

I'm back from JMU orientation, and I'm all registered for my classes. All my Gen Ed transferred, but I need to take an additional philosophy class (as if I mind that). I have a pretty full schedule for the fall--six classes, and all of them theatre/musical theatre-related! It's going to be intense, but I think I'll love it.
I also found out some of the shows that they're doing this year--among others, "1776," "Angels in America," (I assume both of them) "Shakespeare's R&J" (I thought of you for that one, Bevan!), and "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." I'm pretty damned happy with that selection, I have to say. I would LOVE to be in "Drood" especially. Something tells me that if I were to get a main role, it would be Princess Puffer. I am SO one with my inner character actress.
"1776" would be great too, except I'm too mezzo for Abigail and I'm not really right for Martha (although "He Plays the Violin" IS an awesome song). And it just hit me that the guy in charge of the musical theatre program must be some kind of Betty Buckley freak, hehe.
Oh...and there's a 70/30 female to male ratio at JMU. Which is VERY good for the menfolk and not such a sweet deal for the gals.
Now for a looooong nap. I'm beat.
So I'm in the car earlier today with my 17-year old sister Lynn, and I'm driving to our job orientation. Since, I'M driving I get to choose the music. I choose to listen to one of Corinna's mixes. Let it be noted that showtunes are the scourge of Lynn's existence (although she did rather enjoy "I Need Me A Girl" because she's a lesbian, hehehe). "I Can Do Better Than That" from L5Y comes on. This approximation of our discussion ensued:
Lynn: Why is she so excited? (disgusted face)
Maya: Loser...she's asking her boyfriend about living together...she's head over head in heels in love...of course she's excited.
Lynn: But why does she have to belt about being excited?
Maya: Umm...maybe because it's a musical?
Lynn and I then proceeded to contemplate the possibilites of a musicalization of my sister's life. Basically, it would be her sitting at the computer for 2 and a half hours, singing out URLs. That girl is just hopeless.
Oh...and everyone needs to check out this link, it's fricking hilarious. Thanks, Colestritch!
